The Oral-B iO Series 4 represents Oral-B's second generation of magnetic drive technology — a complete redesign from the oscillating-rotating system used in all previous Oral-B brushes. Here is the full India review.

iO Magnetic Drive — What's Actually Different

Every Oral-B brush before the iO Series (Pro 500, Pro 3, Pro 5000) uses the same oscillating-rotating mechanism: a small electric motor physically drives the brush head back and forth. The iO Series replaces this with a magnetic drive system.

How iO magnetic drive works: Two magnets interact to create smooth, precise movement. Instead of a motor jerking the brush head, magnets guide a linear drive that produces micro-vibrations in addition to the oscillating motion.

What you feel: Dramatically smoother. The iO Series feels like a premium sports car vs the Pro 3's family sedan. No buzzing sensation against teeth — just smooth, even movement. Users who found oscillating brushes too harsh will find the iO Series significantly more comfortable.

Cleaning performance: The iO combines oscillating-rotating with the new linear movement — clinical studies show it removes up to 4x more plaque from hard-to-reach areas vs a manual brush (vs 2x for standard Oral-B).

LED Pressure Ring — The Best Pressure Indicator

The iO's LED colour ring around the brush handle base is the best pressure indicator in any electric toothbrush:

  • Green: Correct pressure — cleaning optimally
  • Red: Too much pressure — back off
  • White: Too little pressure — gentle contact is fine, but ensure contact

Unlike the Pro 3's single red light, the three-colour system provides nuanced feedback. The white "too little" signal ensures you maintain some contact pressure rather than barely touching teeth.

4 Cleaning Modes

Daily Clean: Standard comprehensive cleaning — use daily Sensitive: Reduced power — morning brushing, sensitive areas Whitening: Higher frequency for surface stain removal Intense: Maximum power — deep cleaning for stubborn plaque areas

The Intense mode is new in the iO Series and notably absent from the Pro 3. For heavy plaque buildup (after scaling, or for irregular brushers), Intense mode is noticeably more aggressive and effective.

iO Series 4 vs iO Series 3 — What's the Difference?

FeatureiO Series 3iO Series 4
Modes54
Travel caseNoYes (with USB charging)
AppOptionalOptional
TechnologyIdenticalIdentical
Price difference₹500–₹1,000 cheaper

Honest assessment: The iO Series 3 and Series 4 use identical core technology. The Series 4's main advantage is the travel case with built-in magnetic USB charger — genuinely useful for frequent travellers. The Series 3 has 5 modes vs Series 4's 4, which is actually a step back in the Series 4.

Verdict on choosing: If travel charging matters — choose Series 4. For stationary home use — Series 3 is equivalent and cheaper.

iO Series 4 vs Oral-B Pro 3 3000 — Is the Upgrade Worth It?

Is the ₹3,000 premium justified?

  • For users with gum sensitivity or who found oscillating brushes too harsh — yes, definitely
  • For users happy with the Pro 3's results — no, the clinical improvement doesn't justify the cost
  • For tech enthusiasts who want the best available — yes

Should You Buy the Oral-B iO Series 4?

Buy it if:

  • You found previous oscillating brushes harsh or uncomfortable
  • Travel charging convenience matters to you
  • You want the best pressure feedback available
  • Budget allows ₹5,999–₹6,499

Skip it if:

  • Pro 3 3000 results are already satisfactory
  • Budget is under ₹5,000 (iO Series 3 at ₹4,999 is equivalent)
  • You want app AI brushing tracking (step up to iO Series 7)
